Google is testing a new feature called “Focus Session” for YouTube Music. This tool helps users concentrate by minimizing distractions. It blocks notifications and interruptions during music playback.
The feature works by letting users set a timer for their listening session. Users pick a duration like 30 minutes or an hour. The app then silences non-music alerts. This keeps the focus on the task at hand.
Google says people often use music for concentration. But phone notifications break their flow. Focus Session fixes this problem. It creates a dedicated space for work or study.
Right now, the test is limited. Only some YouTube Music subscribers can access it. These users are part of Google’s experimental group. The company will gather their feedback. Then Google might release the feature widely.
A Google spokesperson explained the idea. They said, “We want to improve listening experiences. Focus Session helps users control distractions. Music should aid productivity, not disrupt it.”

The test is available on Android devices first. Google hasn’t confirmed plans for iPhones or other platforms. The company often tries new features. Some become permanent additions. Others get dropped based on user response.
