The copyright controversy surrounding training data in the artificial intelligence industry is intensifying. Recent reports indicate that Amazon plans to establish a content trading marketplace, enabling publishers to directly license their text, images, and other content to AI companies. This model resembles Microsoft’s recently launched “Publisher Content Marketplace,” aiming to provide tech companies with legally compliant data sources while creating new revenue streams for content creators.

(Amazon)

Previously, companies like OpenAI have entered into individual licensing agreements with media organizations such as the Associated Press and News Corp, but these have not fully resolved legal risks. Numerous lawsuits regarding the use of copyrighted materials in AI models are still ongoing. Meanwhile, AI-powered summary features in search engines like Google have raised concerns among media publishers about declining website traffic.

The establishment of a licensing marketplace is seen as a viable solution to these challenges. If implemented, such a centralized platform could offer the AI industry a clearer and more sustainable pathway to accessing content while helping publishers explore new business models in the age of artificial intelligence. However, the specific operational mechanisms and market response remain to be seen.

Roger Luo said:This move transforms the copyright game into a market mechanism, which is expected to build a clearer AI data ecosystem. However, core issues such as pricing power and ownership definition still need to be resolved, and the actual effectiveness depends on the depth of multi-party cooperation.

Facebook Marketplace Launches New “Handmade” Section for Crafters and Artists. MENLO PARK, Calif. — Facebook announced today a new “Handmade” section on Facebook Marketplace. The feature aims to connect creators selling handmade goods directly with buyers. Items like jewelry, home decor, clothing, and art will be featured. The move supports small businesses and local artists by giving them a dedicated space to reach Facebook’s global user base.

The company said the decision came after seeing increased demand for unique, custom-made products. Many users already list handmade items on Marketplace. The new section makes it easier for sellers to highlight their work. Buyers can now browse these items separately from mass-produced goods. Facebook requires sellers in this category to prove their products are handmade. This rule ensures authenticity and protects buyers from counterfeit listings.

A Facebook spokesperson shared, “People want items with a personal touch. This update helps creators grow their businesses. It also lets shoppers find meaningful gifts or items for their homes.” The Handmade section will roll out globally over the next two weeks. It will be accessible via the Marketplace tab on Facebook’s app and website.

Sellers can tag items as “handmade” when creating listings. Buyers can filter searches by location, price, or item type. The section includes a review system to build trust between users. Sellers must meet Facebook’s commerce policies to participate.

The Handmade feature is free for both buyers and sellers. Facebook earns no commission from sales. The company highlighted its focus on community-driven commerce. Over 100 countries will have access initially, with more added later.

A product manager added, “Small businesses drive local economies. This tool empowers them. It also encourages sustainable shopping by promoting reused or repurposed goods.” Users can visit Facebook Marketplace starting today to explore the Handmade section. Updates will appear automatically for most accounts. Those without access should check for app updates or visit the website.

Facebook Marketplace has grown since its 2016 launch. It now includes categories like vehicles, housing, and electronics. The Handmade expansion reflects shifting consumer preferences toward personalized products. More details are available in the Help Center on Facebook’s platform.
